After the Vikings invade Britain and plunder and burn numerous villages, King Arthur decides to take revenge and sends brave men under the leadership of Knight Galahad to Hedeby, the Viking homeland. There, King Arthur’s followers carry out a massacre. The son of the Viking leader, a boy named Halvar, survives. Knight Galahad adopts the boy and takes him to King Arthur’s royal court Camelot, where Halvar matures into a strong, rebellious warrior who fears no battle.

In Camelot, Halvar meets the wizard Merlin, who gives him a potion that allows him to see things other cannot see. Halvar realizes that his people have not been destroyed, but have fled across the sea to a distant land. From that moment on Halvar decides to find his people. Merlin reveals to him that if he wants to find his people, he must come into possession of the sword Caliburn, hidden near the legendary island kingdom of Timaeus. This sword has magical powers and will give him wisdom, power, and strength. And it will lead him to his people — but only if he proves himself worthy of bearing this sword.

Halvar sets out to find the sword Caliburn. His friend, the knight Galahad, accompanies him. Their journey takes them to the deserts of the Orient, the jungles of Africa, and across numerous seas. They follow a trail of enigmatic clues that gradually fit together like puzzle pieces. Along the way, Halvar and Galahad face adventures in foreign worlds, engage in spectacular battles, and finally piece everything together to find the one crucial clue that leads them to the island kingdom of Timaeus.

What they don’t know: The powerful wizard Merlin repeatedly places obstacles in their path, trying to prevent their progress. Merlin, the father of the queen of the island kingdom of Timaeus, Ligeia, once sank the sword Caliburn into the sea. No one should gain more power with the sword than he possesses. Bit by bit, however, Merlin realizes that Halvar might not only be worthy of bearing the sword Caliburn, but is also about to actually find it.

Eventually, Halvar reaches the island kingdom of Timaeus and meets its beguilingly beautiful queen, Ligeia. He falls for her, and only his companion Galahad can prevent Ligeia from bewitching and killing him. Halvar succeeds in renouncing himself, finding the sword, and gaining knowledge. Now he sees through Merlin’s machinations and he sees where he will find his people — in a new world: America.

Halvar does find a Viking village in America, and in a spectacular ceremony at Niagara Falls, he is chosen as the Vikings’ new leader. The rebellious warrior has now become a fearless Viking king, a jarl. But before he can live his life in the New World, he must defeat the evil in the form of Merlin. He returns to Camelot and confronts the wizard. In a spectacular final battle, Merlin takes on the form of a terrible creature and is destroyed by Halvar with the magical sword Caliburn.
